Search

While a list of all sampled sites appears on the right-hand bar of the sites, you may sometimes want to search for more specific items, such as only the sites in the Jordan Valley, or only vessels and sherds with grog. For convenience purposes, the left-hand sidebar provides a list of the most common search options. Below you can find a short explanation about each of them.

Sites by Geography displays lists of all sampled sites in the database, based on different geographical resolutions, from the broadest definition to a narrower one:

The Region search option allows you to view a list of sites, divided into very wide geographical regions, such as the Southern Caucasus, the Northern Levant, and so on.

The Country search option allows you to view a list of sites, which is sorted by the modern day country in which the site is located in.

The Area search option allows you to view a list of sites, based upon a more narrowly defined geographical area, such as the Jordan Valley, Aragats, etc.

The Site Name search option simply provides a list of sites, sorted alphabetically.

Artifacts by Attribute displays lists of sampled vessels and sherds, which have one of the following distinguishing attributes:

The Red-Black search option provides a table listing vessels and sherds that have either a black surface, a red surface, or both, regardless of whether it is an exterior or an interior surface.

The Decoration search option lists the vessels and sherds, sorted according to their decoration, or lack of.

The Grog search option provides a list of vessels and sherds, divided simply by whether they contain grog.

The Organic search option provides a list of vessels and sherds, divided simply by whether they contain organic material.

Through the Catalog No. Search option, you can search for a specific vessel or sherd according to its KAPTech No.

The List of Fabrics search option provides a list of all sampled fabrics (or petrographic groups) in the database, sorted alphabetically by their respective sites.

Finally, the Advanced Search provides the most advanced and powerful search option in the database. Here you can search for specific vessels and sherds according to any criteria that appears in the database, be it color, burnish, petrographic group, and even specific excavations.
